The adjoining villages of Undy and Magor sit on the inland edge of the Severn Estuary in Monmouthshire, Wales, set among the low-lying, reclaimed farmland of the Caldicot Levels. The flat landscape gives wide estuary views and supports important wetland habitat nearby, notably Magor Marsh, making the area attractive to birdwatchers and walkers while keeping a distinctly rural feel close to the region’s towns.
Historically agricultural, the villages retain medieval and vernacular features - Magor in particular has an old parish church and a village-centre atmosphere of pubs, clubs and voluntary groups - yet have become popular commuter settlements for Newport, Bristol and Cardiff. Local life balances conservation and community activities with small businesses and new housing, and there are ongoing local campaigns to improve transport links while protecting the marshes and historic character.
