Churchstoke sits on the England–Wales border in Powys, historically part of Montgomeryshire. The ward covers scattered hamlets and farms in the rolling hills of the Welsh Marches, close to market towns such as Bishop's Castle and Montgomery; the landscape attracts walkers and cyclists thanks to nearby sections of the Offa's Dyke Path and the attractive lanes of the Shropshire Hills.
Locally the economy is mainly agricultural with a sprinkling of tourism, small businesses and commuting to nearby towns, while a compact, tight‑knit community gathers around village amenities and local events; the area still shows plenty of historic character in its churches, farmsteads and lanes, reflecting a long rural history on the Marches.
