Llanidloes lies in mid Wales within the county of Powys, perched on an early stretch of the River Severn and tucked beneath the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains and Plynlimon. The town takes its name from St Idloes and grew as a medieval market centre in historic Montgomeryshire, still showing characterful timber-framed buildings and a lively High Street of independent shops and cafes.
Once an important centre for the wool and flannel trade, Llanidloes now has a mixed local economy of agriculture, small businesses, arts and tourism; walkers, anglers and cyclists are drawn to nearby reservoirs and mountain trails such as the Clywedog Reservoir. Regular markets and community events keep it socially active, giving the town a compact, culturally engaged feel despite its rural setting.
