West Hendon sits in the London Borough of Barnet on the edge of the large Brent Reservoir, commonly known as the Welsh Harp. The reservoir and surrounding open spaces are notable for birdlife and water sports, while the ward straddles the North Circular and the valley of the River Brent, giving a mix of green lungs and busy transport corridors close to Neasden and Cricklewood and an easy commute into London.
Historically part of Middlesex, the area grew from rural and industrial roots and later developed large post‑war council housing on the West Hendon Estate. Recent regeneration has introduced new private blocks alongside retained affordable housing in a sometimes contentious programme that has altered the local skyline; today it is a diverse neighbourhood with active community groups, local shops and ready access to parks and leisure by the reservoir.
