Great Lever is a ward and suburb to the south‑east of Bolton town centre in Greater Manchester. Predominantly residential, it expanded in the 19th century to house workers for the local mills and industries, so the area is characterised by long terraces and compact streets alongside pockets of post‑war housing and small shopping parades.
The ward has a strong local identity with active community and sports clubs and a mixed socio‑economic profile, reflecting its working‑class roots and more recent change. Although much of the heavy industry has gone, traces remain in the built environment, and residents benefit from reasonable transport links into Bolton and ongoing local regeneration and community projects.
