The Little Lever and Darcy Lever ward lies to the east of Bolton in Greater Manchester, historically part of Lancashire. The two adjoining settlements were shaped by the Industrial Revolution: coal working and cotton mills clustered around canal and river routes, and reminders of that era survive in old mill buildings and towpaths from the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal and the nearby River Irwell.
Today the area is largely residential with a compact high street, local shops, schools and active community clubs, while small pockets of light industry remain. It’s a commuter-friendly suburb with a mixed socio-economic profile, some ongoing regeneration and conservation interest in historic waterways and green corridors that give parts of the ward a semi-rural feel.
