Thornton is a village in the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford, in West Yorkshire, England, a few miles north‑west of Bradford city centre and close to the moorland above Haworth and the Worth Valley.
Historically it grew during the 19th century around textiles and local quarrying and is perhaps best known as the birthplace of the Brontë family before they moved to Haworth. Today Thornton mixes stone terraces and Victorian housing with a small village centre, commuter links into Bradford and Leeds, and easy access to open moorland popular with walkers.
