Ellesborough is a small, largely rural parish in Buckinghamshire, set high on the chalk slopes of the Chiltern Hills and overlooking the Vale of Aylesbury. The landscape is dominated by hill-top features such as Coombe Hill and Beacon Hill, with panoramic views, ancient barrows and earthworks; the area sits within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and attracts walkers on long-distance routes including the Ridgeway and the Icknield Way. The parish includes hamlets such as Butlers Cross and lies close to the market town of Wendover.
Historically agricultural, Ellesborough retains a medieval parish church and a scattering of historic farmhouses, while the nationally known Chequers estate - the country house used by the Prime Minister - lies within the parish boundary and adds a distinctive note to local identity. Today the community combines a traditional village feel with a commuter presence, small local enterprises and quiet tourism centred on walking, heritage and countryside amenities.
