The small rural civil parish of Lillingstone Dayrell with Luffield Abbey lies in northern Buckinghamshire, close to the county boundary with Northamptonshire and only a few miles from Silverstone. The area is low-lying farmland and hedgerows with a very small, dispersed population; there is no large village centre, just hamlets, lanes and working farms.
Historically the place is notable for the vanished monastic site of Luffield Abbey and for the Dayrell family who long held the manor, and a medieval church remains as a local landmark. Economically and socially it remains agricultural in character, though many residents commute to nearby towns, and the proximity of Silverstone gives an intriguing modern twist - the famous racing circuit borrows the Luffield name for one of its corners, so tranquil lanes occasionally see race-related traffic and visitors.
