Medmenham is a small riverside parish in Buckinghamshire, sitting on the north bank of the River Thames between Marlow and Henley-on-Thames. The landscape is a mix of wooded Chiltern slopes and low-lying Thames banks, popular with walkers and boaters, and close to the Chilterns AONB, giving it a quietly scenic, semi-rural character.
Historically the village is best known for Medmenham Abbey, a former Cistercian foundation later notorious in the 18th century as the meeting place of the Hellfire Club, and for several riverside country houses such as Danesfield House, now a hotel. Today the parish is largely residential and agricultural with a small tourism and leisure element driven by riverside pubs, walks and historic interest, while many residents commute into London and nearby towns for work.
