Middle Claydon is a small, quietly rural village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, set among gently rolling farmland and the clay-rich soils that give the place its name. It forms part of the cluster of Claydon settlements and sits close to the historic Claydon House and its surrounding estate, a familiar local landmark in the landscape.
Much of the village’s character is shaped by the nearby estate and its long association with the Verney family; Claydon House is now in the care of the National Trust and brings a steady trickle of visitors. The local economy remains largely agricultural with a number of people commuting to Aylesbury and Buckingham, and the community retains a tight-knit, conservation-minded feel with several period cottages and a parish church containing historic memorials.
