Ripponden is a civil parish in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, set in the wooded Ryburn Valley on the edge of the Pennines. The parish is made up of a scattering of stone-built villages and hamlets with winding lanes and a rural character, while still being within easy reach of larger centres such as Halifax and Huddersfield.
Historically the area developed around woollen and textile mills, and many former mill buildings and traditional stone cottages remain, lending a strong sense of local heritage. Today the local economy mixes small businesses, light industry and commuting, complemented by an active community life - village pubs, shops, clubs and regular events - and extensive footpaths and moorland that attract walkers and outdoor enthusiasts.
