Mepal is a small fenland village and civil parish in East Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England. It sits on the edge of the low-lying Fens, close to the Ouse Washes and the River Great Ouse, with the historic towns of Ely and March a short drive away.
Its landscape is defined by reclaimed peat and an intricate network of drains, sluices and washes, so agriculture - especially arable farming - dominates the local economy. The village retains a strong community feel around its church and village amenities, and its proximity to the seasonal wetlands of the Ouse Washes makes it notable for wildlife and wintering waterfowl; there is also a visible wartime heritage in the area where an airfield was once located.
