The small village of Prickwillow sits in the low-lying Fens of East Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England, a few miles east of Ely on the banks of the River Lark. Built on drained peat, the landscape around Prickwillow is characteristically flat and prone to subsidence, with wide skies and a strong sense of the engineered countryside.
Prickwillow is best known for its collection of historic pumping engines - the volunteer-run Prickwillow Engine Museum - which celebrates the village’s role in fen drainage and land reclamation; peat cutting in the past and intensive arable farming today have shaped the local economy. It remains a small, close-knit community where industrial heritage, water management and modern farming meet.
