Stilton is a small village in the historic district of Huntingdonshire, within Cambridgeshire in England. It sits on the line of the old Great North Road, which made it an important coaching stop in earlier centuries and helped the village develop a compact centre with a parish church and a long history of serving travellers.
The village is best known for giving its name to Stilton cheese - the cheese was traditionally sold there to passing travellers, even though modern protected rules mean most Stilton is produced elsewhere. Today Stilton is a quiet rural community with farming around it, some commuters to nearby towns, and a steady trickle of visitors interested in its culinary reputation and historic charms.
