Corby in North Northamptonshire, England sits on the northern fringe of the East Midlands close to the remnants of Rockingham Forest. Once a small market village, it expanded rapidly in the 20th century around ironstone and steel production and drew a large influx of workers from Scotland, earning a long-standing "Little Scotland" cultural flavour; later deindustrialisation after the closure of the steelworks prompted economic and social challenges.
In recent decades Corby has focused on regeneration, with new housing, commercial parks, light manufacturing and distribution jobs, civic projects such as The Corby Cube and a reinstated rail link to London that opened in 2009 improving connectivity. The town now combines a relatively young population, active community and sports life with easy access to surrounding countryside and motorsport and leisure facilities in the Rockingham area.
