Fowlmere is a small village in South Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire, England, set on low-lying chalky countryside a short drive from Cambridge and Royston. It is best known for its nature reserve with pools, reedbeds and wet grassland that attract a wide range of birds and dragonflies, giving the village a distinctly rural and wildlife-rich feel despite its proximity to the city.
The village has a strong local identity shaped by agriculture and a significant wartime past – the nearby former RAF airfield was used by American fighter units in World War II and is commemorated by local memorials and surviving buildings. Today Fowlmere is largely residential with a mix of traditional cottages and newer homes, a handful of local services and active community groups, and many residents commuting into the Cambridge area for work.
