Arlesey is a small town in Central Bedfordshire, England, set amid former sand and gravel workings that have been reclaimed as lakes and nature reserves, giving the area an unexpectedly watery, wildlife-rich character. The settlement grew in the 19th century around brick and tile production - the local clay produced distinctive red Arlesey bricks - and you can still see Victorian touches such as the parish church and old industrial sites tucked into the townscape.
Today Arlesey mixes a village feel with commuter convenience: Arlesey railway station on the East Coast Main Line and easy access to the A1(M) make London and nearby centres readily reachable, and many residents travel to places like Stevenage and Letchworth for work. The community remains lively with local sports clubs, village halls and lakeside walks providing much of the social and recreational life rather than heavy industry.
