Lower Stondon is a small village in the civil parish of Stondon in Central Bedfordshire, sitting in Bedfordshire countryside a short distance from Henlow. It has traditionally been an agricultural settlement - its name is thought to derive from Old English for "stone hill" - but today benefits from good road links and its proximity to larger towns, making it popular with commuters to places such as Bedford and Luton.
Despite modern pressures the village retains a strong community feel, with local groups, a village hall and small businesses helping to preserve a rural character; the nearby former RAF presence at Henlow and other local employers also shape the local economy and social life. Visitors and residents enjoy the surrounding farmland, hedgerows and easy access to the wider Bedfordshire landscape.
