Flitwick is a ward within Central Bedfordshire centred on the small town of the same name, sitting on the banks of the River Flit amid the surrounding Bedfordshire countryside. The area has medieval roots but grew substantially with Victorian rail links, and the built-up ward combines older village streets and parish buildings with later suburban housing.
Good rail connections via Flitwick railway station on the Midland Main Line, with Thameslink services into London St Pancras and Bedford, have made the ward popular with commuters. Locally the community supports shops, small business and light industrial units, sports clubs and leisure facilities, while nearby Flitwick Moor offers a pocket of wetland and wildlife interest, giving the ward a mix of commuter, family and rural character.
