Stotfold sits in Central Bedfordshire on the banks of the River Ivel, its river valley setting having shaped the settlement for centuries. The restored Stotfold Watermill is a notable local landmark and museum, and the town still has stretches of riverside green space and pockets of agricultural land that hint at its older, largely rural character.
Nowadays Stotfold combines local shops and small industrial estates with a sizeable commuter population enjoying road and rail links into London via the nearby A1(M) corridor and local stations. Community life is lively, with active sports clubs, volunteer-run facilities and annual events, and the town sits close to neighbours such as Biggleswade and Arlesey, forming part of a network of small towns in north Bedfordshire.
