Higher Poynton sits on the higher ground above the town of Poynton in Cheshire East, England, on the Cheshire Plain just west of the fringes of the Peak District. Its elevated position gives pleasant views across surrounding countryside and places it within easy commuting distance of Manchester and Stockport, which has influenced much of its modern growth.
Historically the area developed to house workers in local coal‑mining and related industries, and traces of that industrial past survive in street patterns and older buildings. Today Higher Poynton is largely residential - a mix of Victorian terraces and newer homes - with local shops, schools, active community groups and handy green spaces and walking routes that maintain a village feel despite good transport links to larger towns and cities.
