Broad Street is a compact ward in the north‑west corner of the City of London, forming part of the financial district often referred to as the Square Mile. It is largely commercial, dominated by high‑value office buildings and a vast weekday commuter population, with a dense mix of cafés, shops and services that cater to banks, law firms and growing tech and professional sectors.
Its name reflects a medieval wide thoroughfare and the ward has seen dramatic change – it was the site of the Victorian Broad Street station, whose closure in the 1980s made way for the late‑20th‑century Broadgate redevelopment close to Liverpool Street station. Like other City wards, it combines ancient civic traditions and small residential pockets with the contrast of historic churches and modern glass towers.
