Bude is a compact seaside town on the rugged north coast of Cornwall, England, sitting where the River Neet meets the sea. It’s known for dramatic cliffs and wide sandy beaches such as Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets, a popular tidal sea pool and easy access to the South West Coast Path, making it a firm favourite for surfers and walkers.
Historically it expanded as a Victorian resort and around a network of canals - most notably the Bude Canal - originally used to carry sea sand inland for agriculture; today tourism, hospitality and a sizable retired and second‑home population underpin the local economy, alongside an active community, an RNLI lifeboat presence and ongoing efforts to manage coastal erosion and conserve the dunes and towpaths.
