The ward sits on the north Cornwall coast, encompassing the small market town of Stratton, the rural village of Kilkhampton and the cliff‑lined parish of Morwenstow, a few miles from Bude. The landscape mixes rolling farmland, hedgerow lanes and dramatic coastal cliffs where the South West Coast Path runs, giving plenty of appeal for walkers and holidaymakers as well as for local agriculture.
Locally the economy is a blend of farming, small‑scale services and seasonal tourism, with pubs, holiday cottages and coastal attractions important to village life. There are a couple of memorable historic notes: Stratton was once a market town and the scene of a Civil War engagement in 1643, while Morwenstow is famed for the eccentric Victorian clergyman Robert Hawker and his "Hawker's Hut" overlooking the sea, plus a tradition of rescuing and commemorating shipwrecked sailors. Communities here remain active and conservation‑minded, balancing everyday rural life with the pressures and benefits of visitors.
