Mawnan sits on the sheltered, wooded slopes of the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall, a few miles south of Falmouth. The parish sweeps down to the coast and the mouth of the Helford River, with small settlements such as Mawnan Smith, rocky coves and a network of coastal footpaths offering sea views and a distinctly rural Cornish landscape.
Its mild, almost sub‑tropical microclimate encouraged Victorian planting and today the well‑known gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan are major attractions; tourism, alongside farming and small‑scale fishing, largely shapes the local economy. The area retains a close‑knit village feel, a historic parish church, and active conservation and community initiatives that balance everyday life with seasonal visitor pressures.
