Silloth is a small Victorian seaside town on the edge of the historic county of Cumberland in north‑west England, sitting on the broad tidal flats of the Solway Firth. It has a long promenade, sandy foreshore and a distinctive grid layout centred on Silloth Green, making it popular with families, walkers and birdwatchers drawn to the mudflats and salt marshes at low tide.
Originally developed as a mid‑19th century port and railway terminus, the town’s maritime and transport roles have diminished since the rail link closed in the 1960s, but seasonal tourism, caravan parks and community events - notably the long‑running vintage rallies and seaside fêtes on the green - still sustain the local economy. There are also wartime echoes nearby from RAF Silloth, and the town today feels like a quiet, close‑knit coastal community and a gateway for exploring the Solway coast.
