Ambergate is a small village in the borough of Amber Valley, Derbyshire, England, set where the River Amber meets the River Derwent. Its position on the valley floor and alongside the old Cromford Canal made it an important transport and industrial hub in the 19th century, and the village still sits at a key road and rail junction on the approach to the Peak District.
The area retains echoes of that industrial past - canals, limeworks and railway buildings - and lies close to the Derwent Valley Mills industrial heritage corridor, so it attracts walkers, cyclists and heritage visitors as well as commuters to nearby towns. Today Ambergate is a mix of traditional pubs and small businesses, valued for its riverside scenery and easy access to the surrounding countryside.
