Duffield is a large village and civil parish in the district of Amber Valley, Derbyshire, England, set where the River Ecclesbourne runs down to the River Derwent a few miles north of Derby and on the southern edge of the Peak District foothills. It combines a commuter role with local industry and heritage, served by a station on the Derwent Valley Line and linked to the preserved Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.
The village has medieval roots - earthworks of a motte‑and‑bailey at Duffield Castle and the historic hunting area known as Duffield Frith hint at its past - and retains a compact conservation area of stone houses, former mills on the Ecclesbourne, independent shops, pubs and active community groups. Its riverside setting and proximity to countryside make it popular with walkers and families while keeping easy access to Derby’s amenities.
