Ironville is a small former model village in the borough of Amber Valley, Derbyshire, England, a short distance from Ripley and within easy commuting reach of Derby and Nottingham. It sits on the edge of the county’s former industrial heartland, giving a mix of residential streets and reminders of 19th-century industry amid the surrounding farmland and reclaimed industrial sites.
Originally laid out in the 19th century by the Butterley Company to house ironworkers, the village still shows the neat terraces and communal buildings of that paternalistic model-village design and parts are protected as a conservation area. The local economy is now largely residential with small businesses and community groups; culturally it’s known for a strong village spirit and interest in its industrial heritage rather than heavy industry today.
