The village and civil parish of Eyam sits on the edge of the Peak District within Derbyshire Dales, Derbyshire, England. It occupies upland limestone and gritstone country with dry‑stone walls and narrow lanes, the settlement centred on a small green and the 17th‑century manor house Eyam Hall.
Eyam is best known for the 1665–66 plague, when villagers famously imposed a self‑quarantine to limit the disease; that episode is commemorated by preserved plague cottages, a plague stone and displays at the local museum, and has become a defining part of local identity. Today heritage tourism, hill farming and the legacy of former lead mining underpin the economy, while St Lawrence Church, independent shops, pubs and walking routes into the surrounding dales keep the community lively.
