The area around Hartington and Taddington sits on the western edge of the Derbyshire Dales in central Derbyshire, England, spilling into the limestone scenery of the Peak District. Rolling upland, drystone walls and nearby moorland give way to steep dales and popular public rights of way, so it’s a magnet for walkers, cyclists and anyone who enjoys classic Peak District landscapes.
Local life mixes agriculture - principally sheep farming and smallholdings - with a tourism economy built around village shops, cafés and traditional pubs; community events remain important and you can still see historic traces of lead mining and lime kilns in the area. Hartington is noted locally for its market-place character and cheese tradition, and routes such as the Limestone Way and the Tissington Trail provide easy access to the surrounding countryside.
