Over Haddon is a small village and civil parish set on the limestone plateau above Lathkill Dale in the Peak District, within the Derbyshire Dales of Derbyshire. Its position gives fine views over the dry, rocky gorge of the River Lathkill and the surrounding patchwork of drystone walls and pasture; it sits a short drive from the market town of Bakewell and is popular with walkers exploring the dale and other nearby limestone features.
The settlement has a quiet, rural character: traditional stone cottages, small-scale sheep and dairy farming, and a mixed local economy increasingly supported by tourism and holiday accommodation. There are echoes of the area’s industrial past in nearby old lead-mining and limekiln sites, while village life remains close-knit with local events and an emphasis on community amenities rather than urban services.
