The village and civil parish of Hartington Town Quarter sits in the White Peak of the Peak District, within the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire. Set among limestone uplands, dry‑stone walls and narrow lanes, it retains a compact market place and historic buildings such as St Giles' Church, reflecting its former role on packhorse routes across the countryside.
Much of local life is agricultural, with dairy and sheep farming still important, while tourism supports pubs, tearooms, crafts and holiday accommodation. The parish is popular with walkers and cyclists thanks to nearby limestone dales and river valleys including the River Dove and Dovedale, and it maintains a strong sense of rural community through village events and services.
