Wirksworth is a compact historic market town in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, set on limestone hills at the western edge of the Peak District. It grew up around Roman and medieval lead‑mining and lime‑burning and still shows that industrial heritage in its narrow, stone‑built streets, the old Market House and the parish church, with a townscape of Georgian and earlier buildings.
Today Wirksworth has a strong community feel, with independent shops, galleries and craft studios, an annual arts festival and a terminus for a small heritage railway; its position on the fringe of the Peak District makes it popular with walkers and visitors, while tourism, small‑scale manufacturing and creative businesses help sustain the local economy.
