Dale Abbey is a small civil parish in the borough of Erewash, in rural Derbyshire, England, lying a few miles east of Derby and close to Ilkeston. It occupies a quietly scenic spot of rolling farmland, hedgerows and small woodlands, giving it a distinctly rural feel while remaining within easy commuting distance of nearby towns.
The community is centred on the evocative remains of a medieval Premonstratensian abbey, founded in the 12th century and dissolved during the 16th-century Dissolution of the Monasteries; visible earthworks, old fishponds and stone fragments lend the village a strong historic character. Today the local economy is largely agricultural with some small businesses and residential commuters, and the parish retains a close-knit, village atmosphere with occasional local events and a keen sense of place.
