Killamarsh is a large village on the northern edge of North East Derbyshire in Derbyshire, England, sitting roughly between Sheffield and Chesterfield. It developed from a rural settlement into an industrial community in the 19th and 20th centuries, when coal mining and associated iron and steel working shaped its landscape and population (today it is a town of around ten thousand people). The River Rother and a network of former railway lines and footpaths give the area a mix of post‑industrial character and accessible green space.
Nowadays Killamarsh functions largely as a commuter and local service centre with small manufacturing and retail, while many former industrial sites have been reclaimed for recreation, wildlife or housing. The town retains a strong community feel - sports clubs, social venues and local events are part of everyday life - and its location makes it handy for accessing both urban jobs and the countryside of the surrounding Derbyshire and South Yorkshire hills.
