Uplyme is a small village and civil parish on the eastern edge of Devon, in the district of East Devon, right on the county boundary with Dorset. Sitting on the wooded slopes above the valley of the River Axe, it overlooks Lyme Regis and lies just inland from the Jurassic Coast, which brings a steady trickle of visitors interested in fossils and coastal walks. The village has an unmistakably rural character with lanes, historic houses and pockets of ancient woodland.
Locally the economy is a mix of agriculture, small businesses and tourism, and many residents commute to nearby towns such as Axminster or Exeter. Community life is active for a village of its size, centred on local clubs, events and the parish church, and the area is popular with walkers thanks to easy access to coastal and countryside routes.
