Heanton Punchardon is a rural electoral ward in North Devon, in the county of Devon, lying on the north side of the Taw estuary just to the west of Barnstaple. The area mixes rolling farmland and small hamlets with fine estuary and coastal views; popular recreational routes such as the Tarka Trail and nearby sands at Saunton make it a draw for walkers, cyclists and surfers as well as local residents.
The ward has a long local history reflected in its place-name, once associated with a Norman family and a historic manor house, and today combines agriculture with a commuter and tourism economy centred on Barnstaple. Community life is typical of North Devon parishes, anchored by village facilities, a sense of rural identity and the visible legacy of 20th‑century military aviation in the nearby Chivenor airfield area.
