Dittisham is a small riverside village and civil parish in the South Hams district of Devon, perched on the east bank of the tidal River Dart. The settlement spreads up steep lanes from a pretty waterfront of moorings, boatyards and riverside gardens, and is well known for its views across the estuary towards Dartmouth and for the small passenger ferries that link the two banks.
Historically reliant on fishing, farming and small-scale boatbuilding, the local economy today leans on tourism, hospitality and commuters who value the peaceful setting; the village still retains an ancient parish church, a couple of long-standing pubs and a close-knit community feel. It is popular with walkers and sailors, prized for its wildlife and estuary scenery, and often described as a quintessentially charming Devon village.
