Dawlish is a compact seaside town on the south coast of Devon in the district of Teignbridge, England. It is best known for its long promenade and dramatic sea wall that runs along the beach, the famous black swans on the River Exe, and the steam trains of the preserved South Devon Railway with the South West Coast Path nearby; the sandspit and nature reserve at Dawlish Warren lies just across the estuary.
Historically a Victorian resort with ornamental gardens and a traditional promenade, Dawlish has an economy centred on tourism, hospitality and holiday accommodation while many residents commute to Exeter. The town combines a seasonal, visitor-focused atmosphere with a settled local community, anchored by historic buildings such as St Gregory's Church, and has seen occasional high-profile moments when storms have damaged the iconic sea wall and railway.
