Sampford Courtenay is a small village and civil parish in West Devon, Devon, England, sitting on the western fringe of Dartmoor and a few miles from Okehampton. It is a broadly rural community of farms, stone cottages, a village hall and pub, popular with walkers and people seeking easy access to the moor for outdoor activities.
The village is best known historically as the flashpoint of the 1549 Prayer Book Rebellion, when locals resisted the introduction of the new English liturgy, and it still retains a medieval parish church and a strong sense of local history. Economically and socially it remains centred on agriculture and tourism, with an active community calendar and the quieter rhythms of country life.
