Rossington is a large village and civil parish a few miles south‑west of Doncaster in South Yorkshire. Historically the community grew around Rossington Main Colliery, so mining has left a strong imprint on the landscape, housing and local identity; since the colliery’s closure the village has seen housing and commercial redevelopment and now functions in part as a commuter area with good road links and proximity to the River Torne and the site of the former Doncaster Sheffield Airport (RAF Finningley).
New Rossington started as a 20th‑century model village built for colliery workers and still retains a close‑knit, working‑class feel with active community clubs, sports teams and local events. Today it blends that mining heritage with newer housing, small industry and retail, and local efforts to celebrate history while adapting to the post‑industrial economy.
