Sprotbrough and Cusworth lie on the western edge of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, straddling a wooded stretch of the River Don. The area is known for Sprotbrough Gorge, a dramatic river valley and designated nature site offering popular riverside walks and cycling routes such as parts of the Trans Pennine Trail, with notable geology from glacial meltwater and good wildlife interest.
Historic Cusworth Hall, an 18th‑century country house set in parkland and open as a museum, anchors the parish’s cultural life, while the villages retain a villagey, suburban character with conservation areas, local clubs and schools. Many residents commute to Doncaster or Sheffield, so the local economy is largely residential with small shops and community activities centred around historic buildings and green spaces.
