Rampisham is a small rural parish in Dorset, set on rolling chalk downland in the west of the county a few miles from Beaminster and close to the Somerset border near Crewkerne. Its landscape of open downs, hedgerows and scattered farms makes it popular with walkers and gives a notably tranquil, pastoral character.
The village has a long agricultural history and a small medieval parish church, and in the 20th century Rampisham Down became nationally notable as the site of a large BBC shortwave transmitting station, which influenced local land use and employment until it was decommissioned; today the community remains small, with farming, rural tourism and local conservation interests shaping social and economic life.
