Flamborough in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England is a compact coastal village set on the dramatic chalk promontory of Flamborough Head, jutting out into the North Sea. Its white cliffs, sea caves and stacks are a magnet for walkers and birdwatchers, and the headland hosts a prominent lighthouse and important seabird colonies on the headland and stacks.
Historically a working fishing community, the local economy now mixes fishing with tourism - boat trips, fossil hunting and cliff-top trails are common draws - and the village retains a strong maritime character. It also has a notable slice of history: the naval action off Flamborough Head in 1779, and today the place feels like a small, close-knit community with pubs, galleries and seasonal visitors.
