Bempton in the East Riding of Yorkshire is a small coastal village on the North Sea, just south of Flamborough Head. It is best known for the dramatic chalk face of Bempton Cliffs, one of mainland Britain’s most important seabird colonies where puffins, gannets, razorbills and kittiwakes return each spring; parts of the cliffs are managed by the RSPB and attract many visitors for wildlife-watching and cliff-top walks.
The local economy mixes tourism with traditional agriculture and the legacy of coastal fishing, and the village is served by the Yorkshire Coast Line, linking it to larger centres such as Hull and Scarborough. Despite popular summer crowds, Bempton remains a small, close-knit community with a quiet village feel and easy access to neighbouring resorts like Bridlington.
