St Ann Without lies on the rural edge of Lewes in East Sussex, England, occupying stretches of rolling chalk downland that sweep into the South Downs National Park. The parish is predominantly agricultural, with pasture, arable fields and pockets of species‑rich chalk grassland, and it is popular with walkers and birdwatchers thanks to an extensive network of public footpaths and nearby downland scenery.
Quiet and sparsely settled, the area nonetheless has strong ties to the historic market town of Lewes, so residents share in local cultural life - most famously Lewes Bonfire Night - while many commute to larger centres such as Brighton or London. The landscape preserves a long rural history in surviving flint farm buildings, hedgerow field patterns and conservation designations that protect both heritage and wildlife.
