Falmer is a small village and civil parish in the district of Lewes, East Sussex, set on chalk downland a few miles north‑east of Brighton. Its compact historic core, with a village green and the Norman fabric of St Laurence church, sits among meadows and streams; the surrounding slopes and downland are valued for their biodiversity and traditional sheep grazing.
The parish today is defined as much by nearby institutions as by farming: the campus of the University of Sussex and the American Express Community Stadium, home to Brighton & Hove Albion, have reshaped the local economy, transport and social life. Matchdays and student activity bring visitors via Falmer railway station and the nearby road network to Brighton and Lewes, yet much of the area remains rural and community‑focused within the protected landscape of the South Downs National Park.
