Wivelsfield is a village and civil parish in the district of Lewes, East Sussex, England. It lies close to the commuter towns of Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill and on the northern fringes of the rolling South Downs, giving a mix of agricultural landscape, village greens and small hamlets rather than a single concentrated centre.
The settlement has medieval roots - its name is thought to come from an Old English personal name, often rendered as “Wifel’s field” - and retains a traditional village feel with a church, village hall, pubs and local clubs. The local economy still includes farming and small businesses, but many residents commute to larger towns or to Brighton and London by rail; community life tends to revolve around seasonal events, walking and cycling in the surrounding countryside.
